BERNOLD Philippe

Winner of the First Prize at the Jean-Pierre Rampal International Competition in 1987, having held the position of principal flute at the Lyon Opera for 12 years, and now professor of flute and chamber music at the Paris Conservatory (CNSM), Philippe Bernold plays a significant role in developing the flute repertoire alongside his careers as a flautist and conductor, through the collection he directs for Éditions Billaudot.

In 2017, he discovered Jean-Christophe's arrangement of Mendelssohn's Konzerstück No. 1, Op. 113. Originally composed for clarinet, basset horn, and piano, Jean-Christophe transcribed it for two flutes, or flute and alto flute, and piano.

Keen to give his collection an almost musicological approach, Philippe Bernold asked Jean-Christophe to create a very detailed index of all the changes made to accommodate the new instrumentation.

The work was published in 2022 by Éditions Billaudot and performed in concert for the first time by Sophie Cherrier (CNSM de Paris) and Julien Beaudiment (CNSM de Lyon) at the opening concert of the VIIth International Flute Convention (France - 2025).
